Notably, a Concession Agreement has been signed by the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) and the Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre. As per the agreement, the NMPA will assume responsibility for building a new 150-bed multi-speciality hospital on port land, while simultaneously managing and maintaining the current 32-bed Port hospital. On Friday, a ceremony was held to seal this historic accord.
Chief Medical Officer Surekha N. Hoskeri of NMP Hospital and Pro-Chancellor A. Srinivas Rao of Srinivas University signed the agreement. A. Raghavendra Rao, the Chancellor of the University, A.V. Ramana, the Chairman of the NMPA, H.R. Thimmaiah, the District Health and Family Welfare Officer of Dakshina Kannada, and other dignitaries graced the signing event. These well-known individuals’ attendance demonstrated the significance of this collaboration for the healthcare industry.
A.V. Ramana, the chairman of the NMPA, stressed in his speech the need of public-private partnerships (PPP) in the healthcare industry, especially in light of India’s sizable population. He clarified that because of a physician and equipment deficit, NMPA first thought of running just a primary health clinic out of its current hospital structure. The current 32-bed hospital will be managed by Srinivas Healthcare Port Hospital Ltd. for two years before being returned to NMPA as part of the collaboration, which is scheduled to endure 60 years. On three acres of Port property, a 150-bed multispecialty hospital will be built concurrently. After it is finished, the concessionaire will run the new hospital throughout the term of the contract.
